California Residents: Proposition 65 Warning
I ordered these for my 2022 Chevy Colorado Z71 to haul mountain bikes and outdooring gear over the top of the bed without having to completely remove my REV Industries hard tri-fold tonneau cover. Review and findings to follow.
Important note: These rails use a non-standard t-slot dimension. You will want to source 15mm*4mm square nuts for the thread size you need (I.E.: M6, in the case of my Rhino Racks), found on Amazon for under ten dollars and they are a perfect fit. The opening is actually a little over half an inch at the end with an appx. 1/4″ opening for the bolt.
I had to use a utility knife to score out a 1cm cut from the inside edge of each of the rear cover plates (Putco included an extra pair in the box, which was a cool surprise), and a few mm from the inner side on each of the plastic gaskets to give clearance to the tonneau cover rails. Otherwise, installation was relatively simple and could have been completed in under an hour if it weren’t for my custom modifications. Just follow the directions and you’re golden.
Once installed, the matte black rails look really good with the white body of the truck and its black rims/badges/accents and fender flares. The locker castings hold firm in the stake pocket, though there is a couple millimeters of rotational slack in the castings when giving a firm tug to the middle of the rails, even after slightly over torquing the bolts, but they only flex and then go back into position. I think that is expected due to the mounting method, design, and intended use. Everything firmed up especially after installing my Rhino Rack Vortex bars, so I don’t think there is any need for concern. They are perfectly stable and safe so long as you stay within their load rating.
I wish I could include a picture because I really like the way my truck turned out with these and the Rhino Racks. I deducted half a star for the little bit of rotational slop in the castings, and another half for not including a bag of the necessary square nuts to be used with the t-slots for the price, however I highly recommend these bed rails. Thanks Putco!
